Minnesota Valley Humane SocietyMVHS Offers Microchips |
|
Have you heard about "microchips" for pets? A microchip is very small, about the size of a grain of rice. It is placed under an animal's skin, usually between the shoulders where the skin is "loose" and the chip will not cause discomfort. Like its larger cousins used in computers and appliances, the microchip holds information that can be read by a special scanning device. Many animal shelters, pounds and veterinary clinics now have microchip scanners. When a lost pet is brought to in, it can be checked for a microchip -- and the information on the microchip will enable the shelter to contact the pet's owners.
MVHS is happy to offer microchipping for animals adopted from us. The cost is $35 which includes implanting and registering the microchip. Microchipping can be done at the time of adoption, or the new owners can bring the animal back later to get the microchip.
We are also offering to microchip animals recently adopted from MVHS. The owner is required to bring in proof that the animal was adopted from MVHS. Animals without a connection to MVHS will not be microchipped (check with your veterinarian; many clinics now offer microchipping). We also sell certificates for microchipping at many of our fundraising events. Buy the certificate then bring your pet to MVHS to have the microchip implanted.
